The Algarve Biomedical Center (ABC) has already carried out 14,000 tests on employees and users of nursing homes and kindergartens in the Algarve and Alentejo region.

Among the 105 institutions for the elderly tested in the Algarve (users and employees), «we only had one case of a positive home, the Misericórdia de Boliqueime, but it was identified in due time, which allowed for its adequate isolation», stated Nuno Marques , president of ABC.

In Alentejo, 1451 tests have been carried out in 17 institutions dedicated to the elderly. And the work continues daily.

With regard to day care centers, a sector where there is "a much larger number of institutions", part of which will already open next Monday, the 18th, the president of ABC stressed that it was necessary to do "enormous planning, to achieve this , in the space of a week and a half, respond to everything», again in the Algarve, Baixo Alentejo and its coast.

In all, all employees of 129 crèches in the Algarve will be tracked, in order to «reduce the risk of contagion as much as possible» when they open.

Contrary to what happened with institutions for the elderly, where the ABC team traveled to each one of them, in the case of tests for employees of daycare centers that will open on the 18th, they are the ones who go to the drive-thru centers installed next to the Algarve Stadium and Portimão Arena, which allows us to increase our responsiveness.

Minister Ana Mendes Godinho praised the «extraordinary work of the ABC», stressing that its pioneering spirit in home screening turned out to be a good practice that is already being replicated across the country.
