The Center region will now have a reference structure for active and healthy aging, in a project promoted by the University of Beira Interior (UBI), based in Covilhã, and by the polytechnics of Castelo Branco, Guarda and Viseu.
In a press release sent to Lusa, UBI specified that the Reference Center for Active and Healthy Aging in the Center Region – AgeINFuture – aims to aggregate the availability and resources managed by the promoters, with a view to promoting the regional interest in the field of active and healthy aging.
With the name “AgeINFuture”, the center will be headquartered at UBImedical and will work based on the cooperation between its members and other entities and services, to identify, implement and monitor good practices throughout the inner center region.
Promoting innovative solutions to develop the economy associated with an aging society, as well as contributing to increasing the number of years of healthy life, are also among the objectives.
This center will also be responsible for “sharing information of interest for the development and continuous improvement of the intervention and guaranteeing the adequate follow-up and evaluation of the joint activities”, said the source.
“The importance of AgeINFuture is justified by the increase in average life expectancy, accompanied by a demographic situation that has given rise to a very considerable aging of the population in rural regions, a situation that is evident in the territory where it operates”, he added.
According to him, AgeINFuture is part of the concerns that have given rise to national and European policies around active aging, and that have shown its relevance in the context of the covid-19 pandemic.
The protocol that will give rise to the structure is signed by those responsible for the institutions involved, on Wednesday, in a session in which the minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, is expected to be present.
On the 20th, at the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda, the agreement for the entry of the Center as a partner of the National Aging Observatory is signed.
The reference centres, encouraged by the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, are regional structures that organize their partners in a model that brings together industry, civil society, research and government authorities, promoting a comprehensive and innovation-based approach to promote active and healthy aging.
ABC congratulates the creation of this extremely important center for Beiras and for national cohesion.
